Virtual Prompter offers two placements. Docked puts the script in a slim strip just below the camera, keeping the speaker’s eyes close to the lens, and it’s free with no time limit. Floating moves the script into a window that can sit anywhere on screen, such as beside a video call or slide deck, and it can also go fullscreen on a third-party teleprompter that works as an extra display. Floating is unlocked by buying Virtual Prompter Pro on Elgato Marketplace or by connecting a physical Prompter. Virtual Prompter Pro costs $2.99 a month, $29.90 a year or $49.99 for lifetime access.
The actual Elgato Prompter experience itself has been rebuilt from Camera Hub. The script editor now supports full markdown, so headings and lists carry over from other apps, and scripts sit in a dedicated library with search, favourites and tabs for working on several at once. Even better, a Prompter no longer needs to be plugged in to write, which means scripts can be edited away from the desk. Voice Sync, which uses speech recognition to scroll the script in step with the speaker, has been reworked for more reliable tracking and no longer needs high-end hardware, running on virtually any system including Intel and AMD PCs. New on-screen widgets add a timer and progress meter, and a second person can act as an operator, seeing what the speaker sees and guiding the script in real time. Live chat now covers YouTube and Kick as well as Twitch, with messages from multiple platforms combined into a single feed. It’s all good stuff.
On the camera side, owners of an Elgato Facecam or Cam Link can record directly in Studio alongside their script, with resolution, frame rate and codec settings built in and audio taken from any microphone or a Wave Link mix. The live preview is now available on both PC and Mac, and a new HUD adds a readout of camera settings alongside a composition grid. Facecam controls such as zoom, exposure and white balance are included, and existing settings carry over automatically from Camera Hub, so nothing needs setting up again.
Studio joins Wave Link as the next Elgato software available to everyone, and an updated Studio plugin for Stream Deck lets users navigate a script, adjust framing or start recording while working in other apps. The plugin is a free download on Elgato Marketplace and Studio 2.0 itself is available now as a free download from elgato.com.
