The third-generation Ember Mug 3 is built to be treated like any other mug, and having lived with both the Mug 2 and Tumbler daily for the last couple of years, that’s a big deal. There are a couple of sensible caveats, mind you. It needs to dry completely before it’s put back on the charger, and the charging coaster and cable stay out of the dishwasher entirely. It’s still not microwave safe, though this surely isn’t a surprise.
The dishwasher-safe design is part of a broader update. You can now change the temperature on the mug itself, using a button on the base to cycle through five presets from 125°F to 145°F (about 52°C to 63°C) in 5°F steps, with the Ember app still available for finer control. Every Mug 3 also includes a sliding lid, which helps prevent spills and keeps a drink at its set temperature for up to three hours on a single charge.
The Ember Mug 3 launched in September in 10oz and 14oz sizes, priced at $129 and $149 respectively, and a 16oz Mug 3 followed shortly after in October. That makes it the largest mug Ember has made with the 16oz capacity previously only available in Ember’s tumblers, including the recently launched Tumbler 2.
