Beyerdynamic's New MMX 230 Wireless Gaming Headset Has a Surprisingly Old-School Feature

After its announcement earlier in 2025, German audio manufacturer beyerdynamic has now launched its latest gaming headset, the £229 beyerdynamic MMX 230 wireless.

Positioned as a performance-focused headset aimed at competitive and professional gamers, beyerdynamic is betting on its heritage to cut through the noise of a particularly busy market segment.

The MMX 230 wireless features 40mm premium dynamic drivers, with the brand promising exceptional stereo width for precise positional audio. Active noise cancellation (ANC) is included, along with environmental noise cancellation (ENC) on the microphone for clearer voice communication in busy environments.

Notably, the headset also supports Bluetooth 6.0, the latest available standard, which should deliver faster connections and reduced latency compared to previous generations. It’s a relatively early adoption of the standard in the gaming headset space, so worth keeping an eye on.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature is the user-replaceable battery, a first for beyerdynamic’s gaming range and something that feels like a long lost relic of technoology past. The ear cup can be opened to swap batteries, though battery life is rated at up to 60 hours per charge anyway so we’re certainly into luxury territory.

The headset weighs 320 grams and comes with replaceable velour ear pads. It’s available in black or arctic white, and both offer a restrained aesthetic that avoids the more aggressive styling typical of gaming peripherals.

The beyerdynamic MMX 230 wireless is available now for £229 from beyerdynamic.com, Thomann, and UK specialist retailers.
